What To Expect at First Baptist on Sunday morning
Thinking about joining us this Sunday? Here’s what you will find.
There is a gravel parking lot to the left of the church building, between the church and the parsonage, in addition to plenty of street parking. Our Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 am and finish at 10:15. In addition to a Nursery for infants, we have classes for Preschool, Grades 1-6, Teens, and Adults, respectively. Come before 9:30 am to the Fellowship Room at the back of the church to enjoy a cup of fresh coffee, meet the friendly folks at First Baptist, and find where to go for Sunday School.
The worship service begins at 10:30. We welcome parents to have their children with them during the service. It’s not a problem to those up front if young children get a bit restless at times; we like to have the children in our services – it’s part of who we are at First Baptist! We leave it to the discretion of the parents if they feel they need to take their children out for a period. There is a nursery for infants, and a class for children up through third grade during the church sermon. We have assigned workers, but mothers or fathers are also welcomed to stay there with their children.
Music is an important part of our worship. We sing hymns, older and newer, in what most would call a traditional style, accompanied by piano and sometimes organ. We also observe the Lord’s Table on the second Sunday of each month. Occasionally we have an announced luncheon in the Fellowship Room after the morning service.
You will not see a uniform style of dress at First Baptist Church. Some men and boys wear suits and ties – some do not. Some ladies and girls wear “Sunday best,” while others are more casual. Regardless, we seek to encourage modesty that honors the Lord rather than drawing attention to self. We welcome you as you are and hope you will be encouraged to know and follow Jesus Christ in a caring community of believers.
